nice. this is the plugin that I’ve been looking for.
August 9th, 2007 at 5:17 pm
I had been using something else to do a similar thing. This works out very well for me. Thanks for putting this out there.
August 9th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
This is a very nifty plugin. I shall definately try it out.
August 9th, 2007 at 10:48 pm
neat.
one could argue about it, but personally i miss an icon for ordinary links to other pages.
anyways, i shall use it =)

@Jesse:
I’ll do that, when I have time to code an options page for the plugin, so you could turn it on or off. I just thought it wouldn’t look good on some of my own pages, which have a lot of outgoing links.
true
thanks for you feedbak!

Cool, icons are important additions for a website with extra media (mp3, pdfs etc). I like these so I will use them for my new WP website.
Thanks

Nice one. I like it verry much.
But “#postcomment” might not catch all comment links.

Hello, I’m still working on my blog
I love your plugin, but I’m new at wordpress and CSS language. So, I ask you: what I have to do to display an icon INSTEAD of the word “Tags” in my tags list after post? And icon for the date? What I have to write in the form of File-Icons Settings?
And, how can I do to show ONLY icons instead of word+icons? (ex:
Edit ICON : Edit
Comments ICON : No Comments »
Categories ICON : Nippofollie, Notizie
I want:
ICON : Edit
ICON : No Comments »
ICON : Nippofollie, Notizie
Many thanks!

@Orobi,
Thank you for your feedback! I’ll see if I can find a solution for your idea and implement it in the next release of File Icons.
I’m afraid, meanwhile you have to touch your theme’s template. If you just leave out the text between the iconized tag, eg. anchors…
September 11th, 2007 at 8:09 am
Ok, thanks for your answer… I can touch the theme because I’m not good at PHP…
I’ll wait for the next release or I will try to modify theme.

I am running WP 2.2 and I try to delete the feed icons (because I don’t want them displayed all over my site). When I try to click delete, nothing happens. It doesn’t take it out. Do you know what’s going on or is there a place I can remove it from the code? Thanks! (and I do love this plugin)
September 12th, 2007 at 3:21 am
@Bo,
Thank you for the feddback!
The issue you experience has been reported by Ehsan. It was fixed in File Icons version 2.1. Please upgrade!
September 14th, 2007 at 1:29 am
Icon drop down list seems shortened, it starts at accept.png but stops at image_link.png - on both Firefox & Safari.
When I try to add a whole new icon to the silkicons folder it doesn’t show up - either as a result of the above bug or for some other reason - even when I rename it with an A_ at the start (so it would be at the top of the directory).
Love the plugin though. Good Job.
September 14th, 2007 at 1:30 am
Oh I’m running WP2.2.3 FYI.
September 14th, 2007 at 9:09 am
lotech, try to activate and reactivate the plugin. The plugin caches the list of icons in the directory. BTW, please post support questions at the forum http://wpforum.designpraxis.at/

Hi there,
is it somehow possible to make icons visible in IE6?
October 31st, 2007 at 8:16 am
dario, unfortunately not, afaik…
November 19th, 2007 at 2:05 am
I think this plugin is one of the best! Nice job.
November 29th, 2007 at 6:10 pm
Hey Roland, No problem. I am a fan of your plugin and greatly appreciate the work you have put into it.
Feel free to use my suggestions & fix in your next version and let me know if you need any other idea’s.

arkin, thanks for your support!
December 12th, 2007 at 11:55 pm
I am experiencing the same issue as Bo, currently running v2.1 under WP2.3.1 and I cannot delete patterns from the File-Icons Settings page. Have tried deactivating and reactivating with no luck. Any suggestions?
December 27th, 2007 at 5:54 pm
I have the same problem
December 29th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
Dan,
If you were having the same problem I was this might be the solution: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/149365
Cheers,
Michael.

I love this plugin!
Two thoughts:
1) Icon display order in the drop-down on the plugin settings page appears to be non-intuitive. Can these be displayed alphabetically?
A future feature suggestion would be to find some way of organizing/filtering the incredibly comprehensive icon list.
2) Another feature request - option of placing the icon either before (default) or after the link. (I put in an icon for external links, that would look best if the icon were after the link, rather than before.)
Thanks again for a great plugin!

Chip, thanks for your feedback and suggestions. I’ll see if I find the time to work on a new version of the plugin asap
January 3rd, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Michael, thanks for your solution. I’ll reflect this in the next version of File-Icons.
January 3rd, 2008 at 5:04 pm
@Bo, @Kanye, check out Michal’s solution!
January 3rd, 2008 at 5:05 pm
Roland,
I have just run into a new issue, though it’s not directly related to the file icons plugin: for some reason (so far undetermined), all my plugins that modify CSS no longer properly modify CSS (including file icons, crossroads, mydashboard). I’m not sure what changed, and am having difficulty troubleshooting. Have you run into anything similar? (I’ve been searching wp.org support forums, but can’t find any related problems yet.)
January 3rd, 2008 at 5:11 pm
(I should have added more info)
Directly related to the File Icons plugin, the options page no longer displays the .png files for each of the file-type link specifications, or in the drop-down menu to create new ones.
I’ve verified that the plugin is installed properly, and that all of the icon files are there. It may be something on my end, as I cannot view the icon files directly in my browser by url (i.e. ///) - if that makes any sense?
Also, the only thing that I can think of that I did differently, was that I used the wp-dbmanager plugin to “optimize” (i.e. delete db table overhead) - though I couldn’t imagine how that could adversely impact my other plugins?
January 6th, 2008 at 8:11 am
Any chance you could put the CSS in a stylesheet, and add only a reference to the sheet instead of the style tag and tons of declarations into every page??? I like keeping my styles separate and contained. Thanks!
January 9th, 2008 at 3:21 am
Hey, the mod is GREAT except for it not letting me delete a single file type but having to reset the whole plugin. I wanted to remove a file extension and I just couldn’t.
If there’s a way for doing that, I’d be thankful
January 13th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
JulieH, good suggestion, thanks a lot! I’ll work on an option to do so. If you are quicker than me, please let me know of your changes to the plug!
January 13th, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Fabián, your request is on the wishlist for 1.8. Promise
January 26th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Any success getting link icons to work yet? Actually, for that, I’d like the ability to select custom icons (such as the site’s favicon) rather than one in the default list, but have a general ‘external link’ for any undefined links. If I manually upload icons does the plugin detect them or are they all hard-coded individually? (And of course, skip my own site since those would be internal links)
Also an option for the plugin to only work on the content area *or* the entire side (side bars, etc.) would be nice.
January 29th, 2008 at 9:40 am
Hi!
I like this plugin very much! I think it’s nearly perfect!
Just one bug that I’ve found: Flickr URLs are parsed as mail adresses, so an envelope is shown.
Thanks again for this great plugin!
February 6th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Awesome plug-in.. One of my favourites and one of the best for WP I’ve used so far.
I agree that the select menu for adding new icon types should be sorted, as it is a bit awkward.
February 18th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
D. Starr, Thanks a lot! I’ll get the sorting right, as soon as I have some time, promise
February 18th, 2008 at 9:45 pm
Xavi, I’l have also a look at the flick url problem!
February 19th, 2008 at 12:55 am
RE: Scott
The plugin is already capable of what you want; you just need to use CSS to accomplish it. You can either declare a link class (e.g. a.external) in your CSS file, or else reference the appropriate container ID (sidebar, main content, etc.).
